Concrete Surface Prep

There are an overwhelming number of functional concrete surface prep applications to help you with all your Residential, Commercial Industrial needs such as concrete grinding, shot blasting, glue removal . At 2S2G Contracting, Inc. we mainly focus on one thing at the start of every project; Concrete Surface Prep.

Shot Blasting

Shot blasting is extremely efficient when resurfacing industrial plants, parking garages and other commercial concrete floors and steel decks. Shot blasting uses mechanically propelled steel shot that is contained in housing over the concrete floor leaving an ideal surface for coating. As the steel shot blasts dirt, grime, old coatings, and embedded chemical contaminants from the concrete floor, they are continuously recycled and the pulverized concrete and contaminants are collected in the connected dust collector. Because shot blasting floors is a contained process, it is ideal in industrial settings with sensitive or difficult to move equipment.

Nearly all floor repair/topping failures are caused by one or a combination of the following problems: inadequate surface preparation, improper material selection, improper design or construction of the concrete substrate, lack of correct construction detail treatment, or improper application of topping/repair materials.

Preparation is the key to any successful installation. Over 80% of coating failures can be attributed to improper or in sufficient prep. It is important to provide a clean surface free of contaminants and defects with a profile or texture. Resinous and even inorganic floor toppings or overlays on concrete rely on mechanical bonding for long-term, quality adhesion.

Cementitious Patching and Leveling

Several of our supplier partners provide products for self leveling, skimming, and feathering that  can be used from simple patching to full floor leveling where original slabs are out of specification for flatness. We also provide specialty cement surfaces for staining and decorative finishes.

Concrete Vapor Emission Testing

Concrete moisture vapor emission is a natural constituent of any concrete slab. It may be encountered as the emission of mix water during the drying process of a new concrete slab. Concrete drying creates an emission from the slab regardless of whether the concrete slab is below, on or above grade. Moisture vapor emission from suspended concrete is often overlooked as a potential cause of floor covering failure and this specific problem may be exacerbated by the use of light-weight aggregates . Beyond the drying process, moisture vapor emission may be the result of moisture vapor transmission from sources below the slab. The moisture source can be water trapped in a blotter course over a vapor retarder or moisture from the earth passing through the slab system. The major concerns surrounding this issue have been driven by changes in floor covering adhesives and coatings, which are more sensitive to moisture and alkali attack than previous materials. More important than floor covering system failure is the concept that Sick Building Syndrome and other I.A.Q. issues often start at the floor surface and are fed by the high sustained humidity levels created by excessive concrete moisture vapor emission.

Our company specializes in sealing slabs up to 25 pounds / 100% RH that are fully warranted against failure. We install Vapor-Green FC by Advanced Moisture Control, Inc. and can offer our customers a linear chain of custody between products and application.
